The most extraordinary thing happened to me last night.
I had picked up the video projector for this weekend's B-movie night at the church. Since I had to be up in the living room to hand out candy all evening, I decided to hook it up to the DVD player and some spare stereo equipment, clear off a section of wall and enjoy myself. Watched some classics, like The Blob, The Wasp Woman, Attack of the Giant Leeches and a bit of Creepshow.
I love watching old horror movies on Halloween, and a wall-sized picture made it even better. With the orange mini-lights in the window, the jack-o-lanterns, the little skeletons and the fake cobwebs, the atmosphere was perfect. However, something that happened during the evening really made my day.
The picture could easily be seen from outside. I noticed a group of girls, maybe 12 years old, give or take, pause on the front lawn for a minute and talk before coming to the door. I answer the door, and one of them says "are you watching the Wasp Woman? That's the best movie ever!" One of the other kids noted that Attack of the Giant Leeches was on the same disc.
So, there is hope for the future. A new generation of Roger Corman fans is on the way.
