watched "zombie" again after a year or so. It was a little harder to finish the laughable "wizards of the lost kingdom." It wasn't total agony since it easily stands up to MST-ing. Unfortunately i also own an as yet unwatched copy of "wizards of the lost kingdom PART 2" (why god why...???).

Wizards of the Lost Kingdom - 1985 (PG). (VHS) Directed by Hector Olivera. A magician's son teams up with a wise-cracking rogue warrior to win back an overthrown kingdom from evil wizardry. The kid also has a bigfoot-like pet covered with white shag carpeting that sounds like Mr. Bean talking backwards. During the battles, red magic is evil and blue magic is good and the fate of the kingdom lies with a magic ring. Any of this sound familiar? It is impossible to watch the rogue warrior, played by Bo Svenson, and not think of a younger Skipper from "Gilligan's Island." The best part of this low-budget sorcery fest is chuckling over cheap creature costumes---check out the "insect woman, " bucket-heads, and garden gnome. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Zombie - 1979 (Unr). (VHS) Directed by Lucio Fulci. A zombie arrives in New York harbor aboard a drifting unmanned sailboat. When it is discovered that the boat belongs to a doctor working in the tropics, his daughter and a reporter sleuth their way to the island of Matull. On the island, the doctor is battling a pesky sickness that's bringing the dead back to life. These zombies are more decomposed than those of George Romero's flicks and they move a bit faster as well. Fulci employs stylized camera work and isn't afraid to linger on oozing explicit gore. Includes two famous scenes: (1) a shark-fighting zombie and (2) an excruciating splinter-to-the-eye close-up. This movie is among the best inspired by Romero's "dead" series and offers some effective zombie atmosphere. RECOMMENDED.
