Please.. Help me name this film

A black and white movie....  revolving around some strange black rock that during the movie is shown to grow when in contact with water...

I believe this is a film, mates think it is an episode of an obscure TV show that they can not remember the name of....

Anyone out there know the answer?

 I believe Flangepart is right, it sounds like The Monolith Monsters. The fragments of a meteor start to grow like crystals when they come in contact with water, growing into giant towers that eventually fall over and smash into pieces, which then start growing again. Anyone who came into contact with them would be turned into stone.
