The other day I bought a couple of cheap kung fu DVDs at Wherehouse Music ($4.99 each). When I got home and played part of each of them, I realized that both movies were shot on videotape and looked to be relatively recent. The cover art gave the impression both were older films.

Decent stunts and mostly good camera work but not quite what I was expecting. Very questionable English dubbing, re-writing, and name changes with ever present Chinese subtitles.

The boxes say Jalisco Films, and the name Gold-Mex pops up in a logo before the films start. A Google search for Jalisco Films turned up little, it seems to be the common name of a town or area in Mexico. The IMDB had nothing on either movie: "Hunted By Royal Decree" and "The Law And The Outlaw II". Nothing on any of the cast or director names I tried either.

Anyone know anything about these flicks or their source? They almost look like TV shows or TV movies rather than features because of being shot on videotape. Chinese movies being released in the USA by a Mexican company? NAFTA gone mad? It sounds like the plot to a Bruce Sterling novel.

I think those are from SYS International.  They have a couple really good films and some crappy ones that they try to foist on the public.  The dubbing is notoriously insane.
