Ok, guys, I've recently heard about the big surprise ending of this movie, but I really don't feel like taking the time to watch it.  Could  anyone here spoil it for me and let me know what the hell happens?

As I recall, he escapes with the girl back to the topside world, where his dog has been waiting for him and is starving, so he feeds the girl to the dog. Not explicitly shown of course.

Thanks John.  That sounds pretty cool.  Of course it would have been much cooler is they would have shown the girl getting feed to Mr. Dog, but, ahh, I guess the world's not a perfect place.

You can have have your initials back now, JR!

 No problem.

Yes, but this was back before they really started putting gore in movies.

I think it came off pretty well in the movie, one of the better "implied" happenings in a film.  Plus, the movie did not have a mean streak like this anywhere else.  The brutal depiction of violence would have been out of place.
