Don't matter. I'll be dead. Listen to whatever makes you happy.

I was at my maternal Grandfather's funeral today and although I felt very sad at points, the service was absolutely beautiful... It got me thinking very seriously about my funeral and how I would want to be represented.

As for music I would want to a mixture of songs that represented me, songs I liked, and songs that would appeal to my (sometimes sick) sense of humor:

Dust in the Wind - Kansas

Hall of the Mountain Grill - Hawkwind

Think of me with Kindness - Gentle Giant

Into the Fire - Dokken

Don’t Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult

Highway to Hell - AC/DC

Don’t Stop Me Now - Queen

The Song is Over - The Who

Everybody's a Star (Starmaker) - The Kinks

I Am a Rock - Simon and Garfunkel

Strawberry Fields Forever - Todd Rundgren

Me! I Disconnect from You - Gary Numan/Tubeway Army

I Love the Night - Blue Oyster Cult

Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) - David Bowie

Falling in Love Again - Klaus Nomi

Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead - Klaus Nomi

Princes of the Universe - Queen

Antmusic - Adam and the Ants

I'm not sure what order to put them in.

I'd go with ending theme from "MST3K" whoich I always thought would be a good piece of funeral music but never had reason to say so until now... Lookingup

Hymns: Onward Christian Soldiers [sung very well, please!]
The school hymns Lord Behold Us With Thy Blessing at the beginning and Lord Dismiss Us With Thy Blessing at the end.
The people can leave to the sound of The Raiders March from Raiders Of The Lost Ark: my favourite piece of film music.  TeddyR

I wouldn't mind stealing a page from Red Dwarf and using Bill Haley's "See You Later Alligator."

And I think I've shared the story about my wife doing a funeral for a 20-year-old car crash victim, where a mixed cd of his favourite songs was playing in the background. By sheer random chance, the casket, minister and funeral directors ended up coming down the aisle to the opening strains of AC/DC's Thunderstruck. That would almost be worth requesting.

Now that is a great idea. I can just imagine that.

Not quite related, but I used to say, back when I had some interest in politics in my hometown, that if I was someday elected mayor, I'd enter the swearing in ceremony to The Imperial March. TeddyR

Swans - Blood Promise (live version from Swans Are Dead). Such a dark, but epic (17 minutes!) song which I equate to be the closest thing to a religious experience I will ever have.
