I really hope that Kenta Fukasaku can equal his Dad's directorial skill. For those of you who don't know, Kenji Fukasaku, who directed BR1, died early in the production of BR2 and passed the torch onto his son. I read that Kenta is working largely from plans and notes written by Kenji so there's much hope it'll turn out well.
If you haven't seen the first Battle Royale I'd strongly recommend not reading any further. And go watch it, NOW. Same goes if you don't want to know anything about the plot of BR2. You have been warned.
SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
There's now trailers
(here) for Battle Royale 2. The first one was the of the most best films I've seen in ages, really well directed and thoroughly thought-provoking too.
Looks like the new one's gonna cause some huge controversy. The basic plot revealed in the trailers involves the survivor of the first movie leading a terrorist attack on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and it's surrounding area. It just so happens that this is a huge two-towered building that dominates the Tokyo skyline. Apparently, that idea was written in 2001 before 9-11, but the trailer also makes an unclear reference to the date itself. Perhaps the premise is that it's a copycat attack taking place on September 11th in a later year. Dunno. But other than some possible insensitivity (could well all be innocent) it looks like it's gonna be great.
