Film Noir, Kubrick style. Stars?: Sterling Hayden (Jonny Clay) - Coleen Gray (Fay) - Vince Edwards (Val Cannon) - Jay C. Flippen (Marvin Unger) - Marie Winsor (Sherry Peatty) - Elisha Cooke (George Peatty) - Ted Decorsia (Randy Kennen). Plot?: A horse track with 2 million in cash, a group of men wanting it, a plan to get it, and some other people who want the money they steal. Hey, its Noir, and that says it all. -------------- STUFF TO WATCH FOR!! :::::: --------------------------------------------- ....Bartenders, the gamblers best friend. ...Do we realy need you, Mr Narrator? ....What, a corrupt cop in L.A.? No way! ....Jonny & Fay: Dangerious & Desperate. ....George and Sherry : Whipped and Wicked. ....What Kubrick think Noir Patter sounds like. ....Val, you could do better then Sherry...humm, maby he has a paper bag handy.. ....Ahah! I knew Elisha would get slapped around eventualy! ....Earth to George! You are SO whipped, it hurts to watch it... ....Maurice: You need profunditys mummbled, heres yer man... ....Nikki the shooter: Burt Gummers evil twin? ....We can see that sherry is awake, we don't need you, Mr Narrator, Please leave! ...."Thanks for flying American" Hey, product placement in 1956. ....I had this same feeling watching "Atomic submarine"...Will the narrator just please die!? ....Okey, now the music is earning its keep. ....Maurice: The philosophical thug. Bet he knew Tor Johnson... ....Nikki does his Kirk Douglas impression... ....Chatty lot attendants are annoying, but that was uncalled for! Sheesh! ....Now i see why they wanted to re edit this flick. Kubrick is haveing fun with linear story telling. Still.... ....Real time robbery. Does that clown mast make Jonny look like Robert Mitchum? ....And so crime does pay. Oops! Maby not! ....George is a bad shot...realy bad... ....Sherry is about to take a dirt nap...push up dayies...feed the worms...you know... ...."Just a bad joke without a punchline". Sums up many a comedy, too. ....Silly airline passangers are not a recent invention. And, Finaly (Yea)......almost home free, and the sceme is undone by a fast driving Airline baggage monkey! How Ironic, and how familure! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flangeparts says : Check it out! On the Dr. Freex MST scale, i'd give it three planets. And thats because Kubrick may have been playing around a bit much with the conventions of the genre. The Narrator's intrusions are a possable clue..... ------------ Sterling Hayden is a great tough guy. And the rest of the cast comfortable in the parts assigned. All in all, intresting take on the Film Noir. What say you?--------------------------------------------- Back to you, Andrew! -------------------------------------------
