I've got Urotsukdoji Vol1, but haven't seen any other parts of the trilogy.  As for Ghost in the Shell ... after four or five viewings, I think the central theme is that the Puppet Master, an autonomous software weapon, has escaped beyond the control of the Japanese secret service.  Our cyborg heroes are on its trail, but it seeks refuge inside a physical form and asks for sanctuary - the implication being (I think!) that it has developed into a new form of life.  The melded agent-Puppet Master cyborg at the film's end is definitely a new form of life.

I could be *way* wrong on this so feel free to shoot me down.

The second "Urotsuki Doji" set ("Legend of the Demon Womb") takes place at the same time as the first--a sort of simultaneous sub-plot. You'll occasionally see events from the first series occur during the course of the second. (Yeah, I know--it's almost as bad a concept as "the prequel.")

And the thing is, the OVAs got worse as the "series" went along.  "Inferno Road" is probably lethal if watched more than once in a row.

i think i get ghost in the shell now thanks man. still a bit boggled over demon womb but i'll watch it again and think about the sub plot theory. i generally watch them as a refreshing change from regular porn. god can't create a 100% perfect woman but manga can draw one-it's amazing.

I forgot; "Urotsuki Doji" has actually been REMADE, believe it or not, as "The Urotsuki." (This new title is spelled out in English, so anyone interested could probably track it down on Google without a lot of effort.) I don't know much about it, except the feral-lookin' flying kid looks almost exactly the same, there's a lot of "tentacle" action, and a lot of hideous violence following. Proceed at your own risk and all that.
