There were so many encouragements on the message thread about The Core for people who saw it opening night to post their feelings, I'm gonna shed my two cents. In a nutshell, wait for this to come to stores and rent it. At just over 2 hours, there is nothing in this movie that can't be experienced at home. Not quite crappy enough to keep up a good stream of vocal jabs, but definitely not good enough to hold your attention for the whole 2 hours. A lot of people will call this movie the underground version of Armageddon, and they are most definitely right. They got the black guy, the ignorant guy, the half-crazy guy, the hero guy and the heroine lady. All the expected people die while bravely performing their job, and the hero and heroine both live due to some marvelous chance. About the only thing The Core is missing is the love story, and I'm VERY happy it was left out. The acting in this movie was just flat out disappointing. Each time one  member of the crew died, the emotional responses of the others in the crew was quite uninspired and just, not really sad at all. The beginning of the movie  very obviously rips off The Birds, and it takes the movie an entire half an hour before the plot is even mentioned. Taking the cost of the ticket and subtracting the cost of renting the movie when it's no longer a new release leaves about $5.00 that I am owed. I am tired, and I am disappointed. The movie offered so much potential to suck big time, and it couldn't even do that right. That's all I'll say about the movie. I want to leave the rest of the stupidness for someone else to gripe about, like the fact the Earth can't stop spinning, or some crazy nonsense like that.

This had bagain matinee written all over it, if I could afford that.  Can't.  So it'll pop onto the list at netflix and I'll wait until it shows up in the mail.  If anything, it might put me in the mood to watch an entertaining and/or 'classic' disaster movie.  Which isn't a bad thing, for me that is.
