Good news for once.  AP reports (found it on Yahoo) that Ray Harryhausen finally received his very own star on the Walk of Fame.  The man probably deserves it more than half the people there and I am glad to see that he was still living when they recognized him.  He will be 83 this month.

The story:

I'm glad Harryhausen recieved a star and all.  His stop motion work was (and still is) some of the best ever.

Still, I can't help feeling Willis O' Brien deserves one more.  For all of his skill, Harryhausen never created a character with as much soul as Kong.  The Ymir of 20 Million Miles to Earth comes the closest.

It's great to hear that Ray Harryhausen finally got that star. His work still is impressive and deserves some big credit. However, I thought that comment on the article that called stop-motion "outdated" was kind of a put down. It might not be used much today, but it sure as hell is better than the CGI effects of today. And Harryhausen's monsters have "character" in them, something that CGI creations lack.

Didn't he do much of the work on Clash of the Titans?

Deserved and long overdue.  This man has graced movies with a magic that is slowly disappearing.

Yep.  Last movie he did, in fact.  (There's a new picture of his coming out - Tortise and Hare, I think it's called - but that's an older film that's been recently finished.)

Wish he could get to do a remake of the giant octopus flick....with a ten tentacle budget this time.

I am glad he is getting recognition also, stop motion is still my favorite effects type and will be for a very long time (forever dammit!). I do believe that Willis O'Brian deserves one as well but not over Harryhausen.

I would actually like to see some more of his movies hit with a good DVD tranfer... or find a VHS copy somewhere other than Suncoast who can't seem to deliver my flipping Dinosaur Island VHS that I am paying to much for... groan.

I think Eye of the Tiger was the culmination of his talents........I do mean his talents, not those of the actors.
