Last week I rented a new direct to video killer elevator movie called "The Shaft".  It may not be the first killer elevator movie, but it does stand out because it's hilarious and stars Naomi Hott from "Mullholland Drive" and "the Ring".  Definitely worth checking out, there's some classic lines and some great scenes (including an elevator-full of pregnant women giving birth at the same time and one of the funniest jump scenes ever.)

If only they'd called it "Hellevator" or "Killevator"...

Another killer elevator movie is THE LIFT. I believe it came out during the 1980s. I remember the tag line on the original VHS box cover: "For God's sake, take the stairs!" (And I'm not kidding).

Actually if I'm not mistaken, The Shaft is a remake of The Lift

They were both directed by Dick Maas, although he doesn't really consider it a remake.  Why that is confuses me.  I saw The Lift waaaaaay back in 1984 or so and really liked it.  It had a few nifty moments.  Haven't seen this one, but I'm looking forward to it.  Should be worth at least a rental.

Haha ash, thats kinda what I was thinking.

I own the first one, it has its moments. Plus I like to be able to point it out and be like "and THIS one is about a KILLER ELEVATOR!"

Yeah Dick Maas didn't really like the way the first one turned out so he kinda did it again. I'd like to see if I can find it in any of the stores around here.

Blockbuster actually carries this title.  Check their website to see if your local store carries it.

oddly, the shaft and the lift I believe have two different causes for the "killevator". former has ghosts I think and the second is technology... because technology is always evil at first. That is why DVDs are only popular now, the mass killing of tech geeks were just the first version of the eeeevil system.
