this is off the topic of movies, but tv is a pretty popular topic here as well...

if you've ever seen "Fernwood 2nite" then you know it was a hysterical LOL show in the late 70s with martin mull and the great fred willard...a talk show parody.

i'd like to work a trade for old episodes...they aren't to be found anywhere or in reruns...i started watching this when nick at night reran the series about five years ago...i see them for sale on ebay once in a great while but the price is really high...

any info is appreciated...

thanks,

No help in getting dupes, but go see the film clip here in the reviews for ROBOCHIC:  Kip King, who played the rabbi on the "Talk to a Jew" spots as well as many other Fernwood residents -- you'll recognize him -- plays Dr. VonColon.

i'll check that out...that show was SO funny...i can't believe there isn't more web material on it...

(another fernwood type appearance)

there is a really bad pseudo-documentary student film called "elvis is alive! i swear i just saw him eating a ding dong!"...but it has a short segment with fred willard cleaning his pool dressed the part of an elvis impersonator...he tells the interviewer that he hasn't seen elvis but maybe someone saw him (fred) cleaning his pool...it's very funny if you're a willard fan.

---THE BEN STILLER SHOW – fox - 9/27/92 – 1/31/93

The Ben Stiller Show ran for twelve episodes on the Fox network in 1992-1993. It regularly hit near last place in the Nielsens. After its cancellation, the show won the Emmy for comedy writing, beating out Saturday Night Live and two other Fox sketch shows, In Living Color and The Edge. Proof that at least someone with a sense of humor was watching, even though Fox kept juggling time slots, and for a while had it running opposite 60 Minutes. Oops. Two years later, Comedy Central picked up The Ben Stiller Show and ran it in syndication, even running a “lost” 13th episode.

---DANA CARVEY SHOW – abc

Boyish comedian Dana Carvey stirred up a hornet’s nest ofcontroversy with this over-the-top sketch comedy series, which showed how far “edgy” sponsors were willing-or not willing- to go on American TV. The idea was for each weeks sponsor to get title billing- the first episode was called “The Taco Bell Dana Carvey Show” – and then demonstrate its sense of humor by allowing its product to be gently spoofed in the sketches that followed. But when Taco Bell saw what it got, it canceled all future advertising, as did several other sponsors. What caused the ruckus? The premiere opened with a chorus of dancing Taco Bell clerks introducing Carvey by name, “cause he’s a shameless whore…”
This segued nto Saturday Night Live-style political sketches, including President Bill Clinton ripping off his shirt to reveal a chest full of nipples, with which he suckled babies and small animals (to show how nurturing he was). And First Lady Hilary Clinton locked in a Ehite House room, under “house arrest,” screaming like a banshee demanding to be let out.
Pizza Hut, explaining its pull-out, said it’s audience was “family and children…we only align with projects that meet the family brand.” The sponsor’s name was omitted from the title in later episodes, but Carvey, to his credit, did not let up; later sketches included a scatological takeoff on The Wizard of Oz and “First Ladies as dogs”, with Jackie Kennedy barking and eating dog biscuits. With sponsors heading for the door, and only moderately large audiences, the series was canceled after two months.

---THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW – hbo - 1992 – 1998

One of TV’s all-time greatest shows…
Comic Garry Shandling draws upon his own talk show experiences to create the character of Larry Sanders (Shandling), a paranoid, insecure host of a late night talk show! Larry, along with his obsequious TV sidekick Hank Kingsley (Jeffrey Tambor) and his fiercely protective producer Artie (Rip Torn, who gives Homer Simpson a run for his money as the funniest tv character of all- time), allows Garry Shandling and his talented writers to look behind the scenes and to show us a convincing slice of behind the camera life.

---THE LATE, LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG KILBORNE

5-17-01   Ben Affleck

---LATELINE – nbc - 1998-1999

In 1998, Dateline, a NBC newsmagazine show, became a success and at one time spanned four nights a week on NBC. Ironically, one of the mid-season’s comedy shows was named Lateline. The show’s idea was very common on popping up every year or show. Pearce McKenzie is the host of a news show that does in-depth stories just like the real Dateline. The rest of the cast members portray show executives and staff that work behind the camera to put the show together. Al Freundlich is a man who has been working at Lateline for a long time and hope to take Pearce’s spot. With news humor and “Technical Difficulties” moments, Lateline was the first of many shows, for example ABC’s “Sports Night” that had the comedy of broadcasting a national network show.

---NEWWSRADIO – nbc/a&e - 1995-1999

NewsRadio is set at WNYX, a New York all-news radio station. The owner of WNYX, Jimmy James, is an eccentric billionaire who loves to meddle in the affairs of the staff. Dave Nelson, station manager for most of NewsRadio’s run, is the calm focal point for the station. The rest of the staff is made up of: on-air reporters Catherine Duke, Bill McNeal and Max Louis; producer Lisa Miller; engineer Joe Garelli; secretary Beth; and the incompetent Matthew Brock, ostensibly a producer.
