The latest review, a giant monster movie that I really like:
Gamera: Guardian of the Universe

I am in the middle of moving to my new station in Amityville, NY, so I will be scarce for a little while until we get moved into our new home (and the military movers deliver my gear).  Give me a week or two to get settled, these moves are always fun.

I bought Gamera: Guardian of the Universe and   Godzilla and Mothra: Battle for Earth on the same day, a couple of years ago.  I watched Gamera first, then Godzilla, and was appalled by how bad the Godzilla movie was in comparision.  Story, effects, you name it.

Gamera movies shouldn't be better than Godzilla movies.

They just shouldn't.

Now, now, Toho might get a croperate house cleaning some day, and they might do.....Gamera Vs. Godzilla! Hey...we can hope.
Good one, as useual, Andrew.
Did you watch the dvd of this flim? The three set dvd s by ADV is great! The outtakes (Think "Whats up Tiger lily?") are okey, but on the third dvd, they do an "Actors commentary by Gamera, Iris, and Soldier #6), a parody of those mutual ego massages you hear in some comentarys. Funny!
These Gamera flicks are more of what we want. Classy suit effects, with juuuust enough CGI to sweeten the pot, so to speak. Major metropolitan ass was kicked, indeed.
Oh, btw....i think you noticed , how hard it can be to hit a target the size of an apartment building. Still, the marksman ship has improved! Fewer misses, compared to the old days.
Corse....at a mile, a tank is realy a small object, so i was always amused at how many shots missed that big assed bullseye, and did as much damage to the city as the monsters did! Like in "Destroy all monsters"....Hey, JSDF....try AIMING!
Sheesh!

This might sound like the dumbest question in the world (and it probably is), but are the Gamera films worth getting if I really enjoy Godzilla ones?  I haven't really heard too much about Gamera films as a whole, with the exception of the great reviews here.  Every time I go into a store, I see that cool box set with the first DVD staring right at me (and for a great price, too.) and I always want to get it, but reconsider.  I should just go out and get it.  I'm sure they're near the same level of greatness as the Godzillas.

If you enjoy Godzilla movies, you'll probably like the new Gamera movies.  They are extremely well made and very entertaining.

Yeah.  Now can someone tell me how it is they're back and considered "fashionable?"
