Finally had a little time last night to watch these DVD additions to the collection.

"Target Earth" starts off almost like "The Quiet Earth," but then quickly turns into a story of 4 people chased around a deserted city by wandering robots.  The single robot suit is not the best I have ever seen, nor the worst.  The sweeping death ray was a good idea, though the Army's inability to destroy the robots left me mystified.  The metal warriors from another world were supposed to be made of stainless steel, so why not just a Bazooka or a heavy caliber anti-tank rifle?  Especially since their reflexes sucked.

Lesson Learned:  Cathode ray tubes are bulletproof.

Watching this, you will see where Burton got inspiration for the thing that killed the Martians in "Mars Attacks."

"The Thing from Another World" has been long overdue for a DVD release, but the print on the DVD is really awesome.  I had not seen the movie in years, but immediately remembered why so many people think it is a great film:  the script never pauses.  Not only are the characters engaging, but the movie keeps you moving the whole time.  And when they opened the door to the greenhouse and the huge creature was right there - I cannot imagine how many matinee-going kids must have jumped out of their pants.

Lesson Learned:  Never use blood as fertilizer.
