A quick IMDb search shows that ERASERHEAD is now available on VHS (PAL) and Region 2 DVD (Europe, Japan, Middle East).  What the hell is that?  Why has it been rereleased over there, but not over here?  What bizarre, byzantine laws are blocking a U.S. release?  The optimistic side of me says a loaded Special Edition DVD is on its way, but the pessimistic side is just laughing at the idea.

Anybody have any info?

I heard somewhere that David Lynch was opposed to Eraserhead being released on home video at all, the reasoning being that he felt that the film's low-frequency noises wouldn't carry over to TV speakers. However, I've also heard that he's remastered the film for DVD, so things might not be so bleak...
