Hello,
I'd like to find the title to a movie I vaguely recall seeing in the early '70's on a local afternoon television show that specialized in broadcasting wretched movies from the 1950's to early '60's.  About all I remember from this particular black and white film is that the monsters involved looked a lot like turtles with elephant trunks for heads that roamed around mostly in a mist or fog.  If they got near enough to a person, they would get a death grip on the individual with the business end of this trunk and kill them.  At the end of the movie, two fellows were trying to get inside a building to activate something to kill the creatures.  Just as they are getting out of their car, one guy is grabbed by one of the things and the other guy grabs an axe.  The one with the axe chops off the first guy's hand to save him and they manage to activate whatever it is that kills the creatures.    That's about all I remember about it;  any help in tracking down the title to this particular waste of time would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

A couple of small things wrong (it is common to get small details mixed over the years), but this is definitely "Island of Terror" (1966).  Not as bad a film as you remember and Peter Cushing is one of the main characters.  In fact, I think that it was the horror star who had to have his hand chopped off.

One of those movies that is long overdue for a DVD release too.  Curse it!

Exactly so!  Thank you for the reply.  I saw the movie (well, about the last half of it at any rate) in the early '70's when I was about 9, along with Killer Shrews, Tarantula, The Giant Gila Monster, etc., on afternoon TV.   I'll have to see this one again if I have the chance.

Thanks again,
John
