A Mighty Wind

Just saw this on the weekend and it was hilarious. Another great mockumentary from Christopher Guest. I especially enjoyed seeing Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer as The Folksmen. Having seen them as Spinal Tap, it was really funny to watch them do a bang-on parody of a completely different type of musical group.

I thought it was just so-so.  It seems like they're just doing these mockumentaries by the numbers at this point--Fred Willard plays the goofy character, Eugene Levy as the nerdy/weird guy, etc.....

But my wife and I still say "Wha' Happen?"  months after we saw it.

Oh man, we've been doing the same thing. You mean it could last months?

As for the rest, well, Fred Willard seems to have played one character his entire career. But I'd say the others are quite different, although a few of the less versatile players tend to play the same general type. Personally, I think part of the appeal is in seeing the same cast satirizing different topics, much as it was with the old Carry On comedies. Everybody has their schtick, but they play different characters in a different setting. The main thing, however, is that the parody is on target, and it really is. A Mighty Wind hits its target as well as the previous mockumentaries.

I saw this in the theater and I thought it was very funny. It is on my list of DVDs to buy.

i saw it at the theater too, and enjoyed it thouroughly.   it's great to watch a film with subtle comedy in it, not just a s**tload of toilet humour [not that there's anything wrong with that!] so it was a nice change of pace to some of the crap i usually watch ;-)

Somewhat on the same topic, I noticed something in A Mighty Wind that surprised me. Paul Dooley is really getting old. I think the last thing I saw him in was a Star Trek episode, in which he was covered in prosthetics. Prior to that, I mostly remember him in stuff like Sixteen Candles and Strange Brew. Seeing him now was a bit of a jolt.

Still, he's funny as the only remaining original member of the Main Street Singers, who doesn't fit in, and doesn't even look like he wants to be there.

Hmmm, I just saw this the other night myself, and to tell you the truth, was not so impressed. it had its share of funny moments, and it did make me feel for the characters (how dare Eugene Levy be screwed at the end), but I think my life would be better without it.

From what I understand, there is never any script, just  the actors improving on a loose script, which is in that case very impressive.

In any case, as I said, the funny moments were few and far between, but it was leaps and bounds better than the Drop Dead Gorgeous crap

I have not seen the movie but I cannot get over the fact that the title sounds like the biggest fart in the world!!

He hath spreadeth his ass cheeks and released a mighty wind upon his enemies....obliterating them with its foul stench!!!!!

So, i'm not the only one to reach that conclusion!
Jimmy Buffett's album, "Banana wind"....i like to think he got the title from a bar called "The Flatulant Monkey"....hey, it just seems right!....
