Zombie or Zombi

OK I was talking to my friend last night and he was talking about picking up a Zombie movie   I asked him was it Zombi or Zombie and he said he wasn't sure because he thought they were the same movie.  So I tried to explain to him that

Night of the living dead came first and then Dawn of the dead and then Day of the dead.  

Then that Dawn was renamed Zombi (i think) but then Zombi had a sequel that was not Day of the dead but was Zombi 2.  

So Dawn had 2 difffernt sequels

However Zombi was also called Zombie :DAwn of the dead

Zombi 2  then became Zombie (i think). Which in turn was Zombie 2: The Dead Are Among Us

So Zombie is Zombie 2 (WTF)

 And then Zombi 2 (Zombie)  had a sequel that became Zombi 3 but was not Zombie 2 or Zombie 3 and had no relation to the Night of the living dead trilogy.  

Then there was a  Zombi 4  which was also not Zombie 3 but was actually Zombi 5  (WTF)

 And that Return of the living dead was not a sequel to Night of the living dead but was more of a spin off.

And that Children of the living dead SUCKED (i think) and should be burned

That Hell of the living dead was actually Zombi 4

City fo the living dead was Twilight of the living dead which had nothing to do with Night or Day or Dawn or anything else

Zombies 1 and 2 are actually Zombi 1 and 2

Zombie flesh eaters is actually Zombi 2 (and therefore zombies 2 and Zombie and Zombie 2:The Dead Are Among Us)

Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 is Zombi 3  

And the remake of Dawn of the Dead is a remake of the original but may or may not be a sequel to the remake of night of the living dead.

Zombie 3 was Zombie Holocaust which is also Zombi Holocaust

Zombie 4 was Zombie Flesh Eaters 3 but it is not Zombi 4


That was the mot confusing thing I have ever written.  I hope this is a help to all of those that are trying to buy Zombie movies.  

My only concern is if I got everything right or did I make a mistake in the E's and S's.  Also I just noticed how funny the word Zombie looks.

You're overcomplicating this really bad and there is quite a bit of inaccurate information in there, but other than that, good work!

Italian zombie films suck, just stick to Romero's trilogy. but DONT buy the 30th edition of Night of the living dead. a good like 10 minutes of 'extra' footage has been added.

these are shots made in 1997 of some of the old actors redoing the zombies from thirty years prior and this was put in without Romero's consent.

Considering the word zombie has lost all meaning to me and I became so confused reading that that I forgot what was going on about halfway in, I did pick up on one incorrect piece of information.  Zombie Holocaust is also Dr. Butcher, M.D., and has (I think, at least) nothing to do with all those bizarrely titled Fulci pseudo sequels to Dawn of the Dead.
But really, trying to chronicle the actual family tree of those things is probably only overshadowed in confusability by trying to chronologically order the Dr. Who universe.  Let's see you try to figure that one out!

Italian zombie films are fun....and I'd take just about all of them over DAY OF THE DEAD.   I realize we all have different tastes, but if people can't have fun watching Italian zombie flicks I gotta wonder if they can enjoy any of these movies.

Never seen day, heard it was a 50/50 film. I know Romero wasnt too happy about it because he couldnt get the budget he wanted to make it a stronger film and had to rewrite a good portion of the script for the film.

The original script was silly...it basically pitted "good" zombies versus the rest of them.  It sounded like action-adventure territory, not something I think he could have handled.  But at least it would have had more excitement than what he wound up doing.   I think he should have just quit after DAWN--its ending was the perfect way to end the series.

Actually, some of the Japanese ones I can do without.  Horror and fantasy kung fu just don't mix.

There is actually a difference between Zombie and Zombi.

"Zombie" refers to the Undead- you know, the walking, shuffling guys and gals risen from graves and trying to snack upon the cranial matter of The Hero and co. A 12-gauge blast to the head usually puts them down (extra credit if you can dash off a one-liner at the same time. Jackpot score if you have a chainsaw on your other hand...)

"Zombi" refers to a supernatural creature from Vodoo (or Vodoun) mythology. They come in two types- Zombi Astralis, which is a pure spirit, "invisible" in the traditional sense of the word but very powerful to practitioners and followers of Vodoo, and Zombi Corpus Cadavre, which is the more traditonal "Raised From The Dead" type Zombie we all know and love from bad 1950s horror films- is shuffling, drooling, looking very un-alive in general.

Anyone who's watched The X-Files or done any reading on the subject will know that a Zombi Corpus Cadavre is actually some poor sod who's been drugged with a powerful concoction including Tetrodotoxin (made from the infamous Japanese Puffer Fish), buried alive, dug up, and put to work for the Vodoo Witch Doctor.

A guy by the name of Wade Davis spent ages in Haiti in 1984 or so researching all of this. Zombii are also mentioned in James Bond adventure Live & Let Die (both the novel and the film).

Of course all of this is probably totally irrelevant, but there you are...

The difference is really only one of whether you tack an "e" on to the end of the word.  At least as far back as "I Walked With a Zombie," your "zombi" definition was applied to "zombies" as well.
