THE YOUNG LAND (1959) - This is an excellent Western film shot in Mexico starring Patrick Wayne, Yvonne Craig, and Dennis Hopper. It's a story that takes place in 1948 California just after the U.S. took over the area from Mexico. Dennis Hopper shoots down a Mexican in a street gunfight and spends the rest of the movie in jail or in court. Hopper really plays his part like Brando or Dean would, but then again this is the real Dennis Hopper that we all know from his more recent roles. Anyway a U.S. judge arrives to set up and show the locals American justice and Hopper is the first of the outlaws to fall under the new system in the new California. The sheriff dosn't were a gun in a town that is half Mexican and half American outlaws and a war is about to errupt between them because of the recent shooting. The whole film is real nice with the sheriff Patrick Wayne has a love interest in Yvonne Craig (who made many many guest appearences on just about every tv show in the 60's). Also the whole film is shot in a real Mexican Village to give it the feel of 1948 California. Bought the DVD for $3.99. A good one for all you Western fans and Dennis Hopper fans.
