Caught this while channel surfing this morning on Turner Classics.  Robert  Taylor, George Sanders,  Elizabeth Taylor, and Joan Fontaine.

A knight back from the crusades trying to get together  the ransom for King Richard gets involved in a love triangle with  a jewish ' sorceress' and a princess. Throw in  Normans, Saxons, Robin (Hood) of Lochslie, Evil Prince John, a grumpy dad, knights jousting, arrows flying,  and rubber swords clanking  and you got action and adventure.  All in wonderful technicolor. God, I love this stuff!

Probably the best known of the six versions made of my favorite book by Sir Walter Scott. The versions range from a direct-to-video version made in 1999 to two silent versions made in 1913. And that does not include the television series from 1958 with Sir Roger Moore as Ivanhoe.

I've seen this a few times and really like the Medeival films with castles and knights.  Can anyone make a list of the best Middle Ages films. I'll start the list.

Robin Hood
Excalibur
The Green Knight
Alexander Nevsky
Highlander
Henry IV
Romeo and Juliet
Name of the Rose
Beckett
Brother Sun Sister Moon
Beowulf
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

The Vikings
The Longships
13th Warrior
Erik the Viking

I'm sure there are more. Anyone know of any?

Oh, yes EL CID sold it with the rest of my VHS's. Love the ending were they prop him up on the horse outside the walls of Valencia. Good film. Muslims vs Spainards. Sophia Loren also stars.

Nome Of The Rose! Geez it's been so long since I've seen this movie. Very cool flick. Some of the best atmosphere I've ever seen in a movie.

If you like the movie, then read the book by Umberto Eco. Even if you didn't like the movie, then read the book. The movie barely covered the complexity of the book.
