THE BIG COUNTRY (1958) - This is not only a big title, but big landscape and great movie score. Grand Western with great cinematography starring Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Charlston Heston, and Burl Ives. The film is about a range war and Peck plays an Easterner who wants to live more peaceful, but proves to be tough in his own way.

HANNIE CAULDER (1971) - Saw only parts of this neat looking Western recently and I can't wait to see the whole film. It stars Raquel Welch who learns to become a gunfighter to avenge some bad deed. Ernest Borgnine, Christopher Lee, Jack Elam, Strother Martin, and Robert Culp also star in this one. I've heard that it was shot in Spain and a company from England produced it. Notice that Christopher Lee is also in this one. Hope it comes back on TV.

PAINT YOUR WAGON (1969) - Saw only the last 30 minutes of this film were the whole town literally falls apart. You can tell the studio put alot of money into this one having put tunnels all through town and the nice musical numbers. Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin star in this one, but I can tell that it isn't quite my type of Western.

Seen all three of them.

The Big Country
Also with Carroll Baker, Charles Bickford, and Chuck Conners, among other. Here Ives proves he cannot only sing, but also act, as he took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in this film.

Hannie Caulder
Also with Diana Dors and an uncredited Stephen Boyd, among others. The cast list is the give away. This is one of the few westerns the British ever produced.

Paint Your Wagon
Also with Jean Seberg, Harve Presnell, and Ray Walston, among others. Probably the last half hour is the best part of the film. Though, Presnell gets off a nice version of "They Call the Wind Maria." And the costumes are authentic for that time and place.

Watching Clint Eastwood singing  "I Talk  to the Trees" is not a real treat, believe me. The movie had some really funny concepts that could have benefited from better execution .

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

I've been meaning to see this movie but haven't caught it yet. Trying to imagine Eastwood in a musical western and it just seems odd.
