I like low budget thrillers, and I caught this one on DVD last night. It is a director debut, and as such it has lots of flaws, specially when the director tries to show us how good he is at ripping off Tarantino, but otherwise it is quite fun to watch. Val Kilmer plays a once jazz musician turned junkie. This takes us to a walk in the junkie world, plus some other stuff I won't reveal here, save a memorable supporting role by Vincent D'Onofrio. Except for some stupid plot twists (as usual both the director and the writer decide to explain the story in the most difficult way), it is a quite enjoyable flick full of black humour.

Nope, but you can tick the "Kennedy Assasination re-played by pigeons", the "Theft of Bob Hope's droppings" and "Tortured with a wild animal" sections.

I posted something earlier, but it seems to have been eaten.

I've been recommending this film ever since I saw it, even with the predictable thriller parts it's an unjustly neglected film. Kilmer is great, the setting in the crystal meth junkie culture is different and interesting (it's a big problem in my part of the country), and the subplot with him being a police informant and why is interesting. Plus it has genre favorites like Danny Trejo, Luis Guzman, and R. Lee Ermey along with many good characters actors known from mainstream fare in small roles. Plus a great appearance from "Capt. Stubing", which Neville has already hinted at.
