Combat in Babylon 5 was more realistic. I recall one battle where one of the pilots used thrusters to spin around and take out the ship that was pursuing them, without actually changing course. Everything I've read has said that the fighters in B5 were very well designed.

Not all of the aliens in B5 had a bilateral symmetry.  Remember the episode where the Shadow assassins killed the first Kosh?  I clearly remember seeing those guys walk on 8 legs like arachnids.

>Just because oceans, et al, are not shown on screen does not mean they do not exist. Our planet has some very large deserts, and some rather large oceans. If you are smack in the middle (or even near the edge) of either, you might doubt the other exits. AFAIK, it is never mentioned in Star Wars that the ENTIRE planet is a desert.

Luke's uncle was a farmer, and spoke (iirc) of 'pumps;' this suggests to me that there is, in fact, water present. Maybe it is all/mostly underground.<

That still wouldn't work.  If all the water was underground, then there would still be no life on Tatooine's surface.  Take the Satellite Europa for instance.  Scinetists have theorized that Europa has a massive ocean covered by an ice sheet and there is possibly life in that ocean.  But do you see life anywhere on Europa's surface?  No.  Because there is too much radiation and too little atmosphere.  Buit even if you removed these problems, there would still be no life on Europa's surface.  Because the surface dwellers would have no way to access the water.

>Are you, in fact, a scientist?<

No, I was actually studying to be a medical researcher once, but life had other plans for me.  But enough of that,.  I'm just a guy who loves tearing apart the flawed work of sci fi writers.

>Combat in Babylon 5 was more realistic<

I am somewhat inclined to agree with that.  But as for B5, I am still perusing through every episode I videotaped looking for science flaws.  Frankly, the only flaw I see is in Earth's government.  How can they allow a maniac like Clark to take the president's seat and then when evidence surfaces of his involvement with the first president's assassination, allow him to declare martial law?  If our government is going to be so flawed in the future, we are all doomed.

No offense, but why are you looking so closely for scientific flaws?  You'll always find it if you look so closely.

Because it's not an American style government.  Think more of a UN style.

True, (one reason B-5 is my favorite), but on the whole I'd wager 90% of aliens in science fiction are humanoid.

Well there is life in the Sahara desert, mostly insects.  Plus there are things such as anaerobic bacteria which thrive without oxygen (and can exist in vaccuum sealed cans), as well as bacteria which live far below ground -- in oil drilling they've found bacteria miles underground, living off of rocks.

I want to be Ripley when I grow up.

The Sahara was not ALWAYS a desert....what is life suppsed to do when the environment changes?  Pack up and move to another planet?  Most times life adapts...or dies out.  Didn't you learn anything from Jurassic Park?

That sure sounded like you were trying to be a dick.
