I'm interested in surrealist and avant guard movies. The best that I know of now is thx 1138, but I'm looking for more. Any ideas?

Jean Cocteau: Beauty and the Beast, Orpheus, Orpheus Rising
Friedrich Murnau: Nosferatu
everything with the Marx brothers
Looney Tunes golden collection (4 DVDs)
Fritz Lang: Metropolis

The above films are certainly surrealistic , brilliant and beautiful.
See them , i command you

Most of Tim Burton's stuff and Terry Gilliam's are surrealistic and great movies as well. I understand both these filmmakers are heavily influenced from the late german cinematographic expressionism ( 10-15 years before the break of nazism) and Jean Cocteau.

Note all of the above have little or nothing to do with the avant guard film genre.
