Actually, I boofed: Baragon and Godzilla fought side-by-side (kind of) in "Destroy All Monsters." In truth, the suit was so dilapidated by the time "DAM" was filmed, Baragon didn't get any action scenes, so what I said is kinda sorta right. Ironically, the new film's title ("Daikaiju Sougougeki"--literally "Attack of the Giant Monsters") is very similar to "DAM"s Japanese title ("Kaiju Soushingeki" or, well, "Attack of the Monsters").

It's going to be weird to see Mothra and King Ghidorah fighting side by side against Godzilla in defense of humanity; as recently as "Mothra 3" these two have played the role of mortal enemies. One wonders how loyal Ghidorah could possibly be...  :)

King Ghidorah is supposed to join the list of "two-stage" monsters this time; I wonder what the stages are! (the Dorats of "Godzilla vs King Ghidorah," Death Ghidorah" stages 1 & 2 from "Rebirth of Mothra," and Prehistoric King Ghidorah from "Mothra 3" count, sort of, but this will be the first time KG itself--not DG--has an on-screen transformation from one stage to another.) I once envisioned a story in which Ghidorah (actually, the missing head from GvKG) regenerated into the reborn eight-headed Yamato-no-Orochi...could it be?

One word of caution to Toho: WE KEEP THE GIRLS. I didn't see any mention of Mothra's teeny playmates anywhere in the plot description. Maybe I should read it again. "DAM" suffered for their absence, and "Godzilla: Daikaiju Sougougeki" doesn't have that many monsters. KEEP THE LITTLE CHICKS. They have to sing the theme song!

One prayer: the director's earlier works included the modern "Gamera" series. Could this mean the two big G's are finally headed for a showdown at long, long last? "Godzilla x Gamera"--oh yesssssssssss.

A.D. Vision (the company that distributes Gamera: Guradian of the Universe) owns the rights to both Gamera 2 and 3.  They have a generic annoucement that they will release them sometime late this year or early next.  But no date has been announced for six to twelve months.  What gives with that?  I want my Kaiju!!!

Actually, this new film is entitled "Godzilla, Mothra, Ghidorah: Giant Monsters Attack", not just "Godzilla: Attack of the Giant Monsters". I suppose it's a throwback to the Japanese titles of such films as "Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster" and "Godzilla's Revenge" ("Godzilla, Ebirah, Mothra: Big Duel in the South Seas" and "Godzilla, Minya, Gabara: All Monsters Attack" respectively).

By the way, the Japanese title of "Destroy All Monsters" actually translates as "Attack of the Marching Monsters", I guess refering to the March on Mt. Fuji near the end of the film.

Use the address above to keep tabs on the release of "Gamera 2" and "3." They also have "Orochi The Eight-Headed Dragon" (AKA "Yamato Takeru"), and the North Korean kaiju flick, "Pulgasari" should be shipping anytime now: you can order it anywhere but it is listed as "backordered" so it must be delayed.

...but c'mon, will the "Gamera" movies be dub or sub? If you don't wanna wait, and just prefer the original voices, get 'em from Video Diakaiju at  http://videodaikaiju.cjb.net/. My fave: "Gamera 2: Advent of Legion." Wild.

Jumping back to "Godzilla Mothra King Ghidorah (and Baragon, dammit!)," I forgot to mention that the SFX artists from the "Gamera" series will also be working on this one. No offense to the boys from "Godzilla x Megaguiras," but...oh, my.

OH,I HOPE,I HOPE,I HOPE...Sorry. Just read the latest G-FAN about G's  second new film. Insects just do not like him! I gotta say, playing fast and loose with G's history does bother me, but oh well, he's their monster. Just so long as they keep the spirit alive. Now,if only there was a Gamera 4 in the offing!
