"Buckaroo Banzai is officially confirmed for a January release

Close to a year after rumors concerning the 1984 sci-fi fantasy Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension started floating around, the official word has come in from MGM concerning the long-awaited special edition.
A man of many talents ranging from rock stardom to neurosurgery, the quasi-superhero Buckaroo Banzai has invented the device to allow him to travel through matter into the 8th dimension. Of course, evildoers from Planet 10 want the device as well, leaving Buckaroo and his crime fighting team the Hong Kong Cavaliers to face them.
The new special edition, which will carry both Dolby Digital 5.1 and original mono soundtracks will be presented in anamorphic widescreen. Features include an audio commentary, a making of featurette, deleted footage, character profiles, Banzai Institute Archives, a rare prologue sequence and several Nuon enhanced features.
The DVD will finally hit shelves on January 4th, 2002 and will carry a suggested retail price of $19.98."
