One of my recent purchases (I'm always buying movies, mostly DVDs these days) was the Something Weird disc of "Goliath and the Dragon."  The premiere title was, at best, a single slime.  The other feature film on the DVD is my subject though, not only on account of it making some sense and being generally more fun.

Hercules gets washed up in Egypt after a shipwreck and is soon helping the nomad princes fight a mysterious army of phantom warriors.  When he finally finds their base a couple of shocking revelations come to pass.  First, the phantoms are dead nomads who have been soaked in gold and then programmed as robots.  Second, the evil masterminds are the last survivors from Atlantis!

Watch in amazement as the heroes break their swords on the phantoms (they're made of gold, remember?) and then start punching them out.  I can swallow Hercules doing that, but the other jokers?  Please.

Plus, for some odd reason, the Atlanteans built their palace on top of a volcano.  To stabilize the structure an intricate set of valves is employed.  Of course, the evil scientist explains all this in detail to Herc, setting up for the climatic ending as the hero sets the valves to cause an overload.

Hummmm.....i think that fits the Eviloverlord.org rule that says, in essence, "Never let your enemy know the weak points of your secret instalation/fortress/base/deathstar. He WILL make use of it when he escapes."

I just saw this last week!  Yeah, it didn't really fit my idea of Atlantis at all.  I think Water and Prince Namor, not a volcano.    It's crazy how many Hercules movies there are.  I wasn't blown away by that one, though those gold guys were cool.  You should check out "Wolf, Devil Woman" if you get a chance.  It's recently been releases on DVD and is the same thing but crazier and better.  It's like a cross between that and Drunken Wu Tang.  It even outdoes that venerated drunken classic on occasion.
