Well, I just finished watching this silly trilogy from director Larry Cohen, and here are my comments:
IT'S ALIVE (1974) - Bernard Herrmann wrote the musical score (which is a plus), and legendary make-up effects artist Rick Baker created the mutant killer baby (sorry, Rick, it still looks like a rubber doll). The story involves a mutant baby who, upon being born, slaughters the delivery room staff and escapes from the hospital. A fairly sick concept for a "PG" movie.
IT LIVES AGAIN (1978) - There are 3 killer babies this time, and all 3 of them look like rubber dolls. Along for the ride is a stellar B-movie cast, including Frederic Forrest, Andrew Duggan, Eddie Constantine, John Marley (from THE GODFATHER!), and John P. Ryan (who also starred in the first IT'S ALIVE movie). In one scene, you can clearly see the microphone moving back and forth behind a coffee table!
IT'S ALIVE III: ISLAND OF THE ALIVE (1986) - This movie is on the flip side of the IT LIVES AGAIN DVD (2 trashy flicks for under $10,00)! This one stars Michael Moriarty, Karen Black, and Gerritt Graham. A judge orders several mutant kids to be banished to a deserted island. The little creatures still look like rubber, although, this time, they are often animated with stop-motion photography. Ridiculous scenes include:
* A helicopter pilot being attacked by a baby while he is flying over the ocean. For some reason, the helicopter explodes in mid-air.
* A man who had his arm torn off runs around wearing a tattered, bloody shirt. You can CLEARLY see that his arm is tucked inside his shirt.
These 3 movies come on 2 DVDs (widescreen, by the way) that cost less than $10.00 each. So, for about $20.00, you can waste approximately 4 1/2 hours of your life. This, my friends, is what life is all about.
