THE IMMORTAL  / Canada 2000-2001 / 22 episodes at 60 min
With Lorenzo "Renegade" Lamas

Normally I don´t like series - but this one I love!

When I saw my first the-Immortal-episode I couldn´t believe that the makers of this really freak-stinker were serious about it. I was out of my mind with joy.
Every minute there was a dialogue or action that was - simply said - total crap.
I remember doubling up laughing.

Story: an Immortal and his two friends (a nerd and a blondie-girl) are hunting demons, ghosts and undead - that´s all.
Dialogues, plots and enemies (the "devil´s damn dogs" for example) are a slapstick farce if not aimed stultification.

Some striking imdb-comments on "the Immortal":

Anna Konda: "... so childish and illogic I couldn´t believe it."
Carlin: "If you want to laugh, watch this show."
timawa: "Horrible effects, horrible acting, horrible dialogue." (Yeah!)
Brian G: "... so inept and shoddy in every conceivable department that even
Ed Wood would be ashamed of it." (very striking !)
"... scipts defy any kind of logic at all ..."

I highly recommend "the Immortal" to every follower of bad taste.

Did you see this on TV recently, or is it now available on DVD?

I haven't seen it listed on any channel since its one and only season ended in syndication. The show sucked, but I do miss seeing April Telek on TV each week.

I saw it on german television, approximately one year ago.
Do you mean it sucked because it was embarassing and funny, or do you mean it sucked because it was boring? (I think this show is so stupid it can´t be boring)

I wish someone would put the 70's THE IMMORTAL series on DVD or even remake it.  It's where Christopher George is a race car driver with rare blood type. He can heal himself and never die. He is chased around by thugs working for a Nixon-ish billionare who wants to drain the blood for his own personal use.  I think Richard Matheson may have had some connection to this.

Because it was embarassingly bad.

SciFi aired that a couple times back before they decided to only show stuff from the 1980s or later (with the exception of Star Trek, Outer Limits and Twilight Zone).

Yeah, that is where I saw the 70's show. It was part of their "Lost series collections."
What I saw I liked more than those dumb movies they've been running.

I remember the Lorenzo Lamas show because I thought it was a pathetic cheap ripoff of "Highlander", then Adrian Paul did his own series that was a kind of patheitc cheap ripoff of "Highlander".

Plus the Lamas series was one of the last shows that our local bottom of the barrel independent station carried before they completed their switch to infomercials 22 hours a day. They also carried his other lousy syndicated action series "Air America" at some point.

So I've developed an association between the local TV market falling apart and Lorenzo Lamas.

The 70's version turned into The Fugitive. He was running from the government , the rich old guy, and looking for his brother.  It also only lasted one season.

Opening narration from the sci-fi series The Immortal

[The sound of a heart beat over blowing desert winds]

Narrator:    This man has a singular advantage over other men. Ben Richards is immune to every known disease including old age. Periodic transfusions of  his blood can give other men a second, a third lifetime, perhaps more.

Voice:    FIND Ben Richards!

Voice:     The effects of the transfusion are only temporary. I must therefore control Ben Richards life...permanently!

Voice:    He's the most valuable man in the world, but he's no good to me dead.

Voice:    His brother may have the same kind of blood. We've got to find him before Richards does!

Voice:  If you had million dollar blood, where would you hide?

Richards:     I didn't ask for this. I was a test driver. I liked the job. One day the doctor told me I had some kind of special blood. I don't understand it, but I know this. Everything they're offering...I don't want, I gotta live free!

Narrator:    Ben Richards will live longer than anyone has ever lived, but a transfusion to the wrong man could make him a prisoner for all time. And so he runs from the hunters, the human hounds who would cage him.

The Highlander series came first. Actually, I thought the show was pretty good, certainly much better than any of the movie sequels.
