Picked up Anatomy recently at WalMart for 5.50. Great horror flick, well worth buying. Amazon has it listed for 23.00! Here's the review from my site.
The film follows Paula Henning, a young bright medical student. She eventually gets accepted to the creme de la creme of medical schools - Heidelberg.
The main course that she is taking there is anatomy. The school has a huge state of the art anatomy building and we are told it is the number one facility of it's kind in the world.
But something strange is happening. Students are disappearing, as are other locals. Who is behind it all? One of her fellow students or one of the professors?
Anatomy is a strange mix of foreign horror and American slasher sensibilites. It has the class and style of a foreign film with a few American slasher cliches that really bring the film down a bit.
The real saving grace of this film though is the violence. This flick has a mean streak a mile wide running through it. There is one scene in particular in the beginning. The scene involves a live person being dissected on the surgical table. We get to see more and more of the dissection slowly, and just when you beg not to see what else is happening, the film jumps right into it. This one scene alone is worth watching the film for. Truly chilling and disturbing stuff.
The acting throughout the film is superb as well. I watched the film with dubbing (since my wife hates subtitles) but it didn't take away from the talent in this film. Franka Potente did a fantastic job as the heroine. I would love to see this chick in an American film!
The real standout though was Benno Furmann. I had only seen him in one other film which was The Order. Benno did an amazing job with the character that he was given in Anatomy. He hit the nail right on the head as far as I'm concerned. This is someone else we need in more American flicks!
Overall, this is a sure fire buy. I picked it up at the local Wal-Mart for $5.50 so there's no reason to not go pick it up. Turn out the lights, turn up your volume and enjoy this little slice of greatness.
