The Fleischer brothers were great innovaters in the aninmation field. They invented the rotoscope, which is still in use today. A good example of their invention, the Three-Dimensional Setback, is Popeye Meets Ali Babas 40 Thieves. The effect is quite startling like it is described in article linked below.
Max Fleischer StudioI have several of these on VHS that I bought for my kids years ago. You occasionally can find them in bargain bins. The link I posted is one I had been to several years ago and I found it again recently on a site called Weird Links.
When my son was about four we rented Max Fleischer's Gullivers Travels and he watched it about five times in one day. It is quite good and the animation is definitely outstanding.
