Anyone like SURVIVOR TV show? I'm rooting for Rodger. I'd like to see the girl in the silver outfit win also. When he jumped off that cliff into the water while not knowing how to swim was to much. My pick for the previous one was Rudy, but he didnt' win.

Anyone like the new XFL? Did anyone see that Chicago game last week. What do you think of Jesse Ventura? Jesse is something with his film career (Preditor, Running Man, Abraxis), and being govenor of Minnosota while doing play by play with Jim Ross.

Anyone catching those Haunted House shows where a group or family have to stay over night in a haunted house overnight while performing task.

Is anyone still watching WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?

What happened to WHO WANTS TO MARRY A MULTIMILLIONAIRE?

Did anyone watch ECW wrestling? What do you think about them going out of business?

Anyone watching COPS?

What do you think about reality TV?

What is "reality TV"? Is is pretty much defined as a TV show that takes place in a real environment with real people who are not actors. But SURVIVOR is a really bad TV show in my opinion. I hate those "staged reality shows" that have no reality in them like with TEMPTATION ISLAND and THE MOLE. These three shows are really unwatchable and have no place for TV.

Take a look at TEMPTATION ISLAND for instance. Their is just too much sex in that show that it makes me wonder why the censor boards are do doing a thing about it (but lets not forget that SCHINDLERS LIST was shown on TV uncut as well, and not censor board even touched the film). Basically, if TEMPTAION ISLAND is all about the sex then why not change it to a porno TV program and lets see the censor borads do something about that. But I highly doubt they will do anything about that!

As for COPS, that is a bunch of crap as well. It makes you wonder since the cops catch a crazy gunman, you would think that the gunman would shoot at the camera. And the performances are down right hysterical.

So in conclusion, reality TV is not all that good.

Well I like Cops and watch it regularly (so my opinion may be tossed out the window based on that statement) but most of the rest of the so called Reality TV is so distasteful to me that it makes me wish I belonged to another species entirely.  These shows are about how badly people are willing to prostitute themselves to get attention.  I have not watched a single episode of either season of the Survivor series and Fox, the network that brought us such high caliber documentary series such as Caught on Tape 1 - 4 and When Animals Attack 1-4 and numerous others, is the biggest offender.  Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire and Temptation Island are shows that I cannot begin to get across how offensive I find them.  I don't know what is worse, that people would humilate themselves to such a degree (will they or won't they cheat?  well duh), or that the people around the office I work at discuss the events of each episode in microscopic detail.

I also agree with the performances.  No matter what style of documentary you are watching the subjects are playing for the camera.  Anthrolopogists have pretty much proven that nothing destroys the study of cultural and/or human behavior more than the subjects being aware of scrutiny.  They give us whatever behavior they think will make us happiest and keep us watching the longest.

Sad postscript:  If the upcoming strike in Hollywood is not averted then be prepared for even more "Reality TV" as shows stop production and unscripted shows featuirng non-actors begins to fill in the empty slots.  I'll stick with the Discovery and Learning Channels.

Yech.

There's a new one I'm sure Andrew is going to enjoy.  Called "Boot Camp".  You see, they take 16 people, put 'em through Boot Camp until all but one drop dead or something.

Here is where I would normally make a joke, but I made it my New Year's Resolution to stop going after easy targets.

Hello Chad, if you work for a living your* no different than the people you see on those so called distasteful shows.

Well hello back Scott and my, my what a silly little comment you make.  I do work for a living, I have even acted in amateur theater and enjoyed the spotlight and applause.  But, outside of sharing the same genus, I am quite different from the people in those distasteful (and disgustingly exploitive) shows in one important way.  I would never stoop to so low a level as to flaunt my character flaws on national television, or sell myself to marry into money, or subject myself to innumerable peer pressure stunts simply to win money.  I have every intention of earning money for myself and my family through not so simple hard work.  If anything your comment reaffirms my previously stated desire to be something other than human at times, we are a truly disgusting race of animal at times.

* Also your is incorrect, it should be you're.

I know Andrew will probably delete this, considering it a flame post, but sometimes people just rile my bile.  Grrrr.

I hate survivor but for about three or four episodes it was popular here since Mitchell is from vermillion and I go to the university of south dakota here in vermillion, I hate people who root for things just because its near here.  Like how everyone here in eastern south dakota are vikings fans.  It sucks to hear vikings bull all the time during the season, but boy did I have my day with my friends when they lost to the falcons, even though the falcons couldn't win the big one or any real games since then.  I always end up writing way too much and going off the topic but oh well.
