Island of Lost Girls (1973)

Note: Although IMDB lists the year of this movie as 1969, most every other movie site lists the year as 1973. My copy is from Sinister Cinema and lists the year as 1973, which is the reason I list it as such.

ISLAND OF LOST GIRLS is one of a series of actioners that Tony Kendall and Brad Harris did in the late sixties and early seventies that came out during a boom of spy/action thrillers.

In ISLAND OF LOST GIRLS, Tony Kendall plays P.I. Joe Walker, a.k.a. Kommissar X, and muscle-bound Brad Harris plays police Captain Tom Rowland. They must deal with a white slavery ring in Thailand that kidnaps young women and takes them to a secret island where they are prostituted to rich businessmen and perverts alike.

Question: What do you call a white slavery ring in Thailand?

Answer: The Thais that bind.

In addition to having to discover the location of this Island in order to rescue an American girl, they have the deal with some of the dumbest villians to ever grace a screen. While these villians are failing to kill Walker and Rowland, they succeed with being able to assassinate people in close proximity to them with great accuracy.

If you are looking for a deep plot or even one that is cohesive, it is not to be found in ISLAND OF LOST GIRLS. However what can be found in this movie is a lot of humor and fun, both intentional and probably not intentional. ISLAND OF LOST GIRLS moves along at a good pace and has it's tongue firmly planted in it's cheek. ISLAND OF LOST GIRLS features scenery from Thailand as well some local performances such as a stage performance of swordfighters who appeared to be from STAR WARS, they were after all 'Thai fighters' (......I see no need for comments like that).

ISLAND OF LOST GIRLS is by no means a very good movie, but it is a lot of fun as many of these actioners from the early seventies were. There is some nudity in the form of topless Thai girls. This movie is in color and has a runtime of 85 minutes. It is available from Sinister Cinema and Something Weird. My copy from Sinister Cinema on VHS is from a scratchy print. I do not know the quality of the Something Weird version.
