ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST (1980) - An Italian Zombie/Cannibal film that isn't really a zombie film, but more like a Frankenstein film or something. The film is also known as DR. BUTCHER M.D. because of the mad doctor of this cannibal island. If you have seen previous cannibal films or even zombie film you may be to jaded to enjoy this one, but it's still entertaining. On the DVD they have a neat extra of how they promoted this film in the New York City area with characters and street stage to bring in the crowds with a William Castle type gimmick.

I saw this one awhile ago. I think it might be the only cannibal/zombie film ever made. Feel free to correct me if there's another. I remember hearing that the islanders they used to play cannibals were vegetarians so the scenes where they had to canniblize someone really sucked for them. Eating raw meat isnt all that apetizing to most people let alone a vegetarian. I like this movie quite a bit. I hear it's better (cheezier and funnier) in it's Dr. Butcher MD cut, though that's probably harder to find than the Cannibal Holocaust DVD these days.

Yes, yes, yes, one of my favorites! I do like the DOCTOR BUTCHER M.D. edit a little better than the ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST edit (I have both). ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST/DOCTOR BUTCHER M.D. is a fun film about cannibals, zombies (actually automatons), and a mad doctor all rolled into one. In how many other movies do you have cannibals running amuck, a mad doctor doing Frankenstein experiments, a mannequin leaping to its death, scientists lost on the right island, and Alexandra Delli Colli being body painted? The funniest part has to be the mannequin suicide scene. Too much fun in one movie. For anybody who has not seen this yet, be forewarned that it is quite gory. Master Blaster brought up an interesting point: the Vietnamese people playing the cannibals were, by culture, primarily vegetarians, and regularly got sick after the meat eating scenes.
