We're all just victims of circumstance

« on: March 08, 2005, 08:52:40 AM »

I know a lot of people have talked about this movie, but I just watched again for the first time in 12 years so here we go.  I paid a whole dollar for the flick at the Dollar Tree.

There are a lot of interesting facts about this movie.

The Director: Steve Lisberger who also directed TRON.

The Bombastic music score: Composed by none other than the great Elmer Berstein(The Magnificent Seven and too many other greats to list here).

Special Appearances: Ben Kingsley and F. Murray Abraham

The Producer: Gary Kurtz (also produced Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Dark Crystal)

There was a lot of talent on this movie, just makes you wonder what happened. There are some parts I liked, especially the scenery of Turkey where all the exteriors were shot. The other stuff was done at the Pinewood Studios in London.  I thought the little plane of Mark Hamill's character was neat.

Mark tries to do maniac cop, while Bill Paxton is, well Bill Paxton. I do think the white hair made Hamill look a little sinister, too bad he didn't have a script to work with.

I picked up the same copy trek geezer. Actually enjoyed it somehow. The overdone music score and the scenery were the best parts like you said. Almost didn't recognize Mark Hamill. He almost looked like Keefer Sutherland in the film. Definately worth $1.

I bought this one a few months back, Dec I think.  I still haven't watched it all the way through yet.  Maybe one day I'll sit down and watch it all the way through.....I just highly doubt it.

I'm pretty sure there were two movies with this title, and I'm never quite sure which one is being discussed. I saw one years ago, which I believe was direct to video. Had a neat premise about the climate being screwed up, but that didn't end up being utilized much in the second half (something like this happens in a lot of the direct to video SF I've seen; When I saw the begining of "Moon Trap", I thought "holy crap, this is going to be the greatest kalidiscopic roller coaster ride of the imagination I've ever seen!" It wasn't.) I think the title slipstream was the gulf stream permanently moved down to ground level. Everyone had cool ultralight aircraft instead of cars. Anyway, that's the "Slipstream" I've seen, I don't remember if Mark Hamil was in it or not for sure.

You got it right Dave, this is the movie we're discussing.

There was also the Scifi channel movie Slipstream with Shawn Astin, but it was about time travel.
