This is Paul Schrader untouched version and it kicks "Exorcist the beginning" ass. The setup and about the first 20 minutes of footage(also bits here and there) are the same as the"beginning"(The rest is all new). A pirest loses his faith after what happens to a village during second world war. He is sent to a dig in Africa after a find of a buried church. After that the story folds out different. He still meets up with all the charaters but meets a crippled retard that the villages reject because they think he cursed. Guess who gets possesed?

Theirs alot of strong images like two British soldiers who get killed, one head servied on a platter and one is crucifed up side down. Other scene has little kids getting killed in school (you see them dead not getting killed but still gruesome) because one of the villages want to stop them from spearding christanity.

The rest folds in typical "Exorcist" Fashion priest confronts the possesed says he better than God ,Bribes the priest etc.. The ending hell of alot better than the "beginning". For people who saw "beginning" its not the corny twist that "Its the really Doctor!". You know whos possesed.

Overall I enjoyed so if you get chance see it.

This is a film that I've been looking forward to for quite some time now.  I know it'll never play in my area, so I'll have to wait until it's eventual release on DVD.

I saw The Beginning at the theater and was highly disappointed.  At that time I was well aware of Morgan Creek's stupid idea about not releasing Schrader's version and making the hack Renny Harlin re-do the film.

I'm a huge fan of Schrader's work.  Everything from Yakuza and Hardcore up to Auto Focus.  The guy really has a cinematic eye and does great work.  I keep hearing that his version of the exorcist prequel is much more cerebral and much less graphic than Harlin's work.  That's exactly what the Exorcist films needed to bring them back......not some possesion flick made for teens with ADD.

But, Morgan Creek has a history of screwing with the Exorcist productions.  Just take a look at Legion (Exorcist III)  for example.  The film starts off as being much more high minded than the rest of the series, and is a great horror film because of it.  The ending falls quite flat, but only because Morgan Creek asked William Peter Blattey to pepper it up a little bit for the average audience.  The film seriously suffers because of it.

Back to the original topic - I will pick up Dominion the day it is released.  I can't wait to finally see a smart Exorcist film.

Yes Skaboi this version is alot more cerebral. Their alot of strong themes like misunderstanding religion. For example the Africans think Chistantiy is evil because when the pirests arrive everthing goes wrong. Its hard for them to tell the difference between the religion and the people. The images like I pointed out in my review are also strong. Thier is part one of the villages loses his son and is also a devout Catholic who take a picture of Jesus that he hung on his wall breaks the frame and then spits on it. It rough reviewing cause I am a Catholic but it done in away were you understand. If you see post some some opinions on it.
