A few weeks ago I picked up Il Mare or at Netflix, a very interesting movie.

The basic pemise is that two characters start exchanging letters..but they are seperated by two years.  (one things it's 1998, the other 2000) Eventually they fall in love through the letters.

It's an interesting movie, and really cool.  It *is* a love story and occasionally moves a little slow, but the time-travel aspect of the letters adds for a really cool twist.

What's nice in that they tend to avoid some of the obvious sci-fi conventions about paradox and such; they just take it as a matter of course and find some interesting ways to explore the implications.

The ending left me a little confused, though.

A good sad love-story with sci-fi underpinnings

Freep,

Yep, Il Mare is a pretty good flick.  I rented a copy a while back.

But, if you do a imdb search, you will find that there is going to be a remake....with Sandra Bullock....

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

I dunno...it could be done well if they can keep a good atmosphere.

What I liked about it was that they kept the time-line straight and didn't monkey about with time-changing paradoxes and other stuff.  The little philisophical asides by the characters, mostly in the letters, gave it a nice feel.  I think Sandra Bullock could play it understated with feeling, but I'm not sure about Reeves.  Considering how low-key the rest of the characters are, I'm surprised they got some 'names' in there (Jeremy Irons, Christopher Plummer).  Given the cast, I almost expect a different story around the same general plot device
