I know where my towel is.

Well, we spent a few days (rainy) down at the beach with friends.  Most of the time it was nearly a riot, with 5 children in the house (3, 2, 2, 1, and 4 months).  However, one day the other couple with two children left, while Katie and Jenn took the kids out for a while.  That left Todd and me in the house, at 10AM.  We promptly popped in "2019: After the Fall of New York" and poured some JD.

This was a good choice for our dedicated bad movie time.  One of the better "after the apocalypse" films that I have seen.  The story centers around a devastated New York, where the last fertile woman is hidden.  The Pan-American Confederacy (based in Alaska) sends a rebellious warrior (and two assistants) into the Euro-Asian controlled ruins to recover the girl.  Yes, they intend to send her and a select group of men to Alpha Centari to start anew.

The leader of the Americans says that the girl can produce 500 fertile eggs.  I think that they mean to remove the eggs from her and plant them, fertilized, into surrogates.  Otherwise, wow, that woman is going to be a motivator.

There are some over the top characters, along with surprising fights (like the one rat killer guy getting his grape crushed).  Still, highly recommended for those who like these sort of films.

I actually saw this at the cinema during its brief, limited U.S. theatrical run back in the mid 1980s.  I remember several people groaning/laughing when they realized the movie was a dubbed Italian import.  This would make a good double feature with 1990: THE BRONX WARRIORS.

I was just thinking 1990: Bronx Warriors. Tack on Escape from New York and you got yourself an apolcalyptic New York feast!

I loved this movie!  The question for me wasn't so much whether the woman would go through 500 labors as whether the scientists realized that the result would be 500 half-siblings...  not the best genetic beginning for the reborn human race.

My favorite character was Big Ape.

My favorite line from the video box was "Starring virile actor Michael Sopkiw!"

My favorite race of the future: the Euro-Asians.  What would result from the mass mixing of all the people of Europe and Asia?  A bunch of pasty white dudes.

Question - Was the guy who played Q in Star Treck in this as the Eurasian Leader?  He sure looked like him.

I was quite happy that I recognized the one girl from "Devilfish" and also the other girl who was in "The New Barbarians."

That would be John de Lancie who played Q in the television series, "Star Trek." He has a list of credits going back 30 years, but he's not listed as appearing in any of the films mentioned in this thread.
