Not on Adult Swim! They did a murder mystery parody with Smurfs there.
And the Zombie smurfs in Twisted Toyfare Theater...oh, they just lend themselves to so much abuse...

As an Adult I feel a little ill but hey, kids gotta have their movies too. (I just hope I won't have to watch one with any kids in the near future)

I thought I once heard plans for an Alvin and the Chipmunks live action movie. Did any one else hear about that?

Hey, don't you be knockin' the Smurfs!  I saw the original Smurf movie in the cinema (I can't even remember how old I was back then, I was that young.)  I used to pester my parents for the figurines that were being given out with fast-food meals.  I watched the TV series and quite happily sang, 'nah naaaah nana na naaa, Naaa nana na naaaah!'

Smurfs rule.  Any village full of Smurfs and only one Smurfette has got to be the scene of some pretty wild times.  (Did I just say that???)

Speaking of Moomintrolls, they are very big in Japan and I believe there was a Moomintroll anime at some stage.  I really liked the books, maybe the Japanese have done something good with them.

There is, of course, much Hello Kitty anime.  It's even available in Australia in the kid's section of DVD stores.

As for Dr Suess, well, those damn sneetches in breeches...

I'll have to look for that.  My first was "Moominland Midwinter" and I really liked it.  "Moominpapa's Memoirs " was a trip!

In French, they are called schtroumf, which by a strange coincidence is the German word for sock. This got turned into Smurf for the international market. In Spain, they are known as pitufos.

On "The Venture Brothers" the Monarch's main henchmen, who are parodies of overzealous fanboys although one of them sounds remarkably like Ray Romano, are always having fanboy style arguments about various shows and movies. In one episode, they are arguing about whether the smurfs are mammals or not citing things like that Papa Smurf has a beard and the other guy countering that since they only have one female they must be insects. That's why I love the VB for putting in stuff like that.

The local Fox affiliate runs reruns of the Smurfs on weekday mornings, and counts it toward their educational/informational requirements since they have the old E/I symbol in the corner. Bit of a stretch as far as I'm concerned.
