A few months ago I posted that Andrew hadn't reviewed anything that was skull worthy. (much less review anything do to his very demanding and dangerous  job)

He's put in not only "The Trail of Billy JAck" with a skull but also "Mushroom People" with two slimes (not nearly as bad but to me two slimes doesn't sound like a great time to me) and now we got "Candy" with another skull.

(ouch!)

I think Andrew needs a break and he's got to check out something that would turn that skull frown into a four to five star slime smile . My suggestion is:

Versus (uncut): It's got Zombies, BLOOD!!!,swords, guns, AWESOMENESS, a cannon gun, comedy, blood, swear words, bad dubbing (if you switch to that option on the DVD), not much story, sunglasses, blood, black leather, and it's just down right awesome! It's perfect even if it's doesn't have any massive amounts of sex or nudity (which would have gotten in my way to be honest. I wanted a action horror movie not a  porno)

If this doesn't get a four or five slime rating then I don't know what does.

While I love Versus, it kind of slackes off in the second and fourth acts. Most of the antagonists (could anyone be considered a hero?) were cool (the butterfly-knifing Yakuza and Fighter were the best). The film has a lot of action but the best scenes are the Prisoner's fight with the biker Yakuza (nice martial arts fight without much wire fu), the Yakuza vs. Yakuza Zombies, and the Prisoner vs  Fighter (hilarious dialogue. Fighter- "You can't hit me! I have five hundred times faster reflexes then Mike Tyson!"). This movie reminds me of the second and third matrix movies. I didn't like any of Super Neo's fights (CGI characters fighting only works if they are dinosaurs vs. the Chtulu) but the fights between the side characters like Morpheus were good because they could be hurt. The Yakuza and Fighter were just regular people stuck in a battle with supernatural forces. I can dig that.

As for possible other high slime movies.... Hmm, let me think.

The People Under the Stairs. Don't want to spoil any of the scenes  because the characters are so off the wall. "Run, Fool!"

Wow, that might be the only good B-movie I've ever seen.

Andrew, are you planning on reviewing anything by Uwe Boll?

"Azumi", which I think is from the same guy who directed "Versus", is lots of fun as well. It is a far more traditional film, but the you have things like a camera rotating 360º around the swordsmen, or stuff like a beggar who has just had his hand cut off raunning to catch some coins. I liked it a lot.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Really, both of the recent skulls were films that I watched while out in Iraq.  Though I might have been hoping for the bad guys to finally hit me with a rocket, the scars from both "The Trial of Billy Jack" and "Candy" are far in the past.  I do not have any plans to watch either ever again, especially "Trial."

"Freaked" is pretty fun.  I am waiting for my DVD of it to arrive from Amazon.  That will probably get 3 slimes though.

The stuff by Uwe Boll that interests me is all in production right now.  They have interesting ideas, but will probably fall pretty flat.  I am hoping that one manages to slip into that groove where a bad movies becomes an enjoyable bad movie.

Yeah, Uwe has bought up the rights to a LOT of video games and is turning them into (I presume) lackluster movies. His first effort, "House of the Dead," was awful and nearly ruined my love life. (Don't ask.) His latest release, "Alone in the Dark," was a huge step up, but that's not saying too much. It didn't make much sense, has a smattering of terrible music (except for "Wish I Had an Angel" by Nightwish, which oddly enough plays during THE END CREDITS!!! ?), and one of the most boring "love scenes" ever! (Tara Reid and Christian Slater seem so uncomfortable and bored that I actually felt a pang of guilt for them.)

Amazingly, after two lousy movies, Uwe's getting bigger budgets and bigger stars.

Anyway, here's some "good" movies that you may want to take a look at Andrew (Not all of them are exactly out on Region 1 DVD yet).

Ravenous: One of the greatest cannibal films ever made! It's fun, witty, and a huge thrill to watch.

Ong-Bak: On DVD August 30th - One of the hardest hitting martial arts films I've ever seen. Tony Jaa, the film's leading man, does all his own amazing stunts and puts a huge beating on every bad guy that gets in the way of his quest. A must see for kung-fu fans! Thailand is making some great movies!

Kung-Fu Hustle: On DVD August 2nd - Stephen Chow's latest flick is a bit cartoonish at times, but a helluva lot of fun to watch! Check it out!

Shaun of the Dead : Probably the greatest zombedy of all time!

Legend of the Phantom Rider: Lesser Known indie horror/western. Two reincarnated gents (One good-looking and intensely evil; the other, intensely ugly and mainly good.) duke it out in a small western town. Look for Angus Scrimm as the town's clergyman!

Loanshark: Indie film by first time director Jay Jennings about a money collector's swift downfall after extended abuse of his "clients." I thought it was suprisingly good.

Monster Dog: Rare but fun Italian, Puerto Rican, American co-production that pits Alice Cooper against the forces of evil. There's some werewolfism and rock n' roll afoot in this oddity!

I could keep going, but I think I've rambled enough!
Keep up the great work Andrew, it's great to see you back in the saddle again!
Take care man,
Jordan
