A TASTE OF BLOOD: We have a winner here!

Yes, we have a winner for the best low budget film that has a great deal of professionalism in it. That and it's directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis, so you know the entertainment value is going to be good. But, the gore is limited to only three shots.

John Stone (Bill Rogers) recieves a package of two brandy casks and that he has to drink a toast to his ancestor. He does so, and as the film moves on we discover that the brandy had the blood of Count Dracula in it! So Stone becomes a rotted, blue lighted Count Dracula whenever he wants to and he elimintaes those who are the descendants of the men who exterminated the Count. It's up to Dr. Hank Tyson (William Kerwin, still smooth as ever) and Dr. Howard Helsing (Otto Schleshinger) to stop Stone from turning his own wife Helene (Elizabeth Wilkinson) into his own vampire bride!

H.G.L. has made his most impressive film ever (better than BLOOD FEAST) and the gore effects are alright (the particular sequence of a man getting stabbed with a pool cue is very gruesome). Add some good acting, better production values, great camerawork, and better settings and you have a GOOD HORROR FLICK! And the audio commentary with Lewis is also a joy to listen to.

When it comes to low-budget horror flicks, I must once again praise Kolobos. The acting, at parts, is PITIFUL, but it's a throwback to the slashers of old, and I liked the entire film. Definitely not something to watch over and over again, as with ANY slasher, but a good film nonetheless. The gore, children, the gore! And it f**ked with your mind, too.
