In honor of this fine St. Patrick's Day (I'm not Irish, but any excuse to drink), I'm wondering what you're favorite booze-drenched movies are.

Unfortunately my memory is failing me at the moment, and the only movie I can think of is SHAKES THE CLOWN.  Bobcat Goldthwait as a drunken clown, how can you beat that?  Well you can, this movie is hideous to watch when your drunk, seeing as it's filled with the most brain-scraping hangover scenes I've ever seen.  It's also a two-edged sword, as the movie isn't that funny if you haven't been drinked.  But hey, I enjoy it in a perverse sort of way.

The only others I can think of are the Guy Ritchie films LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS and SNATCH.  But these movies only have a couple of scenes of alcoholic mayhem, and aren't completely about booze.

So if you can help me fill in the gaps in my memory, what are your favorite booze-based movies?

I'm taking a break from working on my "Leprechaun 2" piece (better late than never).  This should help clear my head.

All of these have lots of drinking:
Strange Brew
The Killer Shrews
Devil Girl from Mars
The Crawling Eye

There are plenty more, like "Leviathan" (it's the vodka that is infected).

Definitely ''Withnail And I''.Lots of wine, cider and at one point, lighter fluid,is quaffed through this fantastic film. Also Danny the drug dealers ''Camberwell carrot''is quite frankly the scariest spliff I've ever seen. Two puffs and you too will feel ''the fear''.

Figures I would forget STRANGE BREW, seeing as I own the movie and all.  By the way, never play the game of taking a drink every time they say "Eh."

Let me add LEGEND OF THE DRUNKEN MASTER.  Even though he doesn't actually drink very much in the movie, it can't be denied.  By the way, do not buy the DVD, which has crap for extras.  One interview with Jackie Chan, and not even an audio track in the original language.  In fact, all it's got going for it is that it's in widescreen.

The best movie to watch under the infulence of ANYTHING would have to be Yellow Submarine, that cracked-out Beatles cartoon with the blue meanies invading Pepperland.  Beatles to battle!
Picture yourself in a boat on a river with tangerine trees and marmalade skies. . .

I can't believe no one's mentioned BARFLY, the Charles Bukowski movie starring Faye Dunnaway and Mickey Rourke!
Exceptional writing, Frank Stallone(!) as a brutal bartender, and some of Mickey Rourke's best acting ever -- and he is a very good actor, despite being in some "unfortunate" films.
BARFLY is a booze-drenched alcoholic mess from start to finish -- it's the entire raison de'erte from beginning to end.  Rockets Redglare, and underground actor, appears near the end as a Bar-pig.
