I'd vote for Captain Jack Sparrow.

'cuz then I'd get OFF the deserted island.

=)

Laura -- you can't start slinging around sayings like "get a life" on this board.  It's a board dedicated to BAD MOVIES, savvy?

No one here WANTS a f**king life.   We want decaying, brain-eating UN-lifes, we want Raoul Julia movies, MST3k, we want pointless debates over Kirk versus Picard, we want to banter over the finer points of the sub-$2 DVD bin in Wal-Mart.

We want the camaraderie of other geeks like us.   Just like any other corner of the internet.

This also has the distinction of being THE nicest board I've ever spent any time on.  THE nicest board.

So be nice or go 'way, savvy?

And Picard wouldn't get annoying?  I think he'd be more annoying over time because he'd always be trying to reason with something, rather than giving an ass-kicking when an ass-kicking is needed.

Please, give your opinion.  "Get a life" isn't an opinion so much as a put-down of someone else.  Write about which Captain would be better.  Or, if you don't like a particular thread, don't read it.  Just don't pop in and start throwing insults around.

Peace.

"why dont u get a life?" could certainly be taken as an insult...especially when you only popped in this topic just to say that.

To quote your first post:
"As always, Ashthe cat always asking the same stupid things as always.
why dont u get a life?"

You don't see that as insulting?  If not, then I've got nothing more to say to you.

The only thing you have accomplished doing is attacking a member of this board in several topics, and disrupting the conversations. The only person who has gone off topic is you. All you want to do is incite trouble and then come back and suggest it is your right to do such. Opinions are very much a part of this board and a cooperation between the members; unwarranted attacks on any member of this board is not an opinion and disrupts the community. You are nothing but a troll looking to disrupt this board.

Back on topic: I've actually mulled this over for a few days before responding (which I think might mean that I WIN). As a viewer, I preffer Kirk, but I think my chances of survival are a lot better with Picard, especially if I'm a redshirt. Also, I like Patrick Stewart ever since he was the erotic bakery guy on SNL:

Captain James T. Kirk is my pick. How could it be anyone else. The other shows should have called themselves something unrelated to STAR TREK.  The sets and music are not as colorful in the old ones. No comparisons in my opinion. : )

I'll go with Kirk. Nothing like that "Cowboy Diplomacy."

Kirk was all about action and adventure and FUN. Yeah, he had his preachy moments, but Kirk was entertaining. Picard was a product of science fiction that began to take itself too seriously. I don't care if it's more realistic that the captain stay aboard the ship, I don't care if it makes more sense that he be a skilled diplomat. It's not fun.

I've always said that the biggest mistake in TNG is the assumption that we want to see Picard avoid danger. Go for 45 minutes telling us that a fight is inevitable, then pull out some hokey peaceful solution at the end and expect the audience to breathe a collective sigh of relief. Kirk would at least have scrapped with the enemy a bit first, then found some common ground.

And as a fan of old B sci-fi, Kirk just fits the classic space hero image. Funny, when you grow up watching Trek, it never occurs to you. I went a few years without it being readily available on TV, and was surprised, on watching it again, that I'd never noticed how much it resembles other classic sci-fi in style. Now I enjoy it on a whole new level.
