I just saw Wild Zero.  I was massively disappointed,

After hearing so many good things on the internet..  Perhaps that was inevitable.  But man, it was just an awful, boring flick.  Long periods of the film stretch on with nothing of interest happening.  None of the action in the film is in the least bit interesting.  The music is amongst the worst I have ever heard - astonishingly bad.  Sad when a film gets massively upstaged by The Howling V, the other film I rented with it.  Don't even know what else to say.  The worst bit of the film was definetly the sheer boredom of the film, which is a problem with MANY modern Japanese films.

I keep seeing fairly new Japanese films with positive buzz, and find movies where apparently 5 minutes of nothing happening of any consequence followed by 5 seconds of entertainment (think Kitano) = beloved film.  I call it a failed attempt at being cool.

There were a few bits I DID like in Wild Zero, I figure I should mention them.

Guitar Wolf - despite playing AWFUL (which, amongst other things, is out of tune and sync) music, I must admit they are pretty cool in this film.  Also liked Wolf's deal with the spaceship at the end.

The crazy boss of the nightclub, the one who wore hotpants, was also amusing.

Really, I guess that's about all I have to say for now.  Just a little depressed at being so disappointed.

I felt that Wild Zero was a blast.  It's not structured very well, and it is a cheap flick but I can't help but enjoy the hell out of it.

IMHO, Guitar Wolf rocks.  They don't know how to play instruments yet they just rip it up until something sounds remotely like music.  I have a couple of their cds in my car.

I also love the fact that they had the balls to mix together a rock flick, a zombie flick, an alien flick and transvestites!  It's just wacky, stupid, mindless, gory entertainment.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

Yea, it's been a few months since I saw the film myself and only remember cool dudes with greaser hair, bad looking zombies, explosions, bad spacecraft effects, mixed a few decent moments, but in the end it's all about the band looking cool......................The end.

It was fun. Not over the top fun, but a fun film never the less.
