I gave my daughter the Dracula boxed set for her birthday last year and recently borrowed it from her.  I was pleasantly surprised.

The spanish version of the movie was excellent.  I have heard in the past that it was superior to the Lugosi version and now that I have seen it, I am forced to agree.  The actor playing Dracula looked remarkably like Lugosi and the Renfield character did a marvelous job of going back and forth between lucidity  and lunacy.

Dracula's Daughter

I enjoyed this as well.  I had some wonderfully campy moments.  One idea I found refreshing was the attitude of the hero.  He is a psychatrist and through the whole movie his belief that vampires didn't exist remains unshaken.  He remains convinced that Dracula's Daughter is a head case.  Of course the arrow she gets through the heart tends to delay her recovery somewhat.

Several of the sets in Dracula Daughter are from the original movies.  I thought that was a nice touch.

Things I didn't like:  The lipstick on her henchman.  It was far too obvious on his lower lip.  Unless the man actually had a huge lower lip.....

When the hero gets shot at with an arrow, from atop the castle wall, he

A : Immediately draws a gun (at no other point in the film is it even suggested that he is carrying one)

B:  Makes no attempt to cover his movements after he enters the castle.  In fact, he walks through the centre of the courtyard.

WOW! This box set has the Spanish version of Dracula that was filmed on the same set during the off hours of Lugosi's Dracula? That's awesome! I've been hearing stories about for some time now, but none of my friends of teachers have actually seen it. I'm glad you have and can attest to its quality. Now I'm going to find it and see it. Thanks for the good words!

You're kidding, right? The Spanish version has been available on VHS for years now, since the early 1990's, and has also been available on DVD before as part of the single-disc release of DRACULA, which included both versions of the story.

I'm seriously surprised you didn't know it's been available for about 15 years now.

A few months ago, I got the DRACULA boxed set along with these other boxed sets:  THE MUMMY, FRANKENSTEIN, THE WOLF MAN.  I have watched all of the movies so far, except DRACULA'S DAUGHTER and 3 of the Mummy movies.  These sets are great.

I recommend Dracula's Daughter.  Just take into consideration the era in which it was made and I think you will enjoy it.
