Most disturbing film ever?

'Un Chien Andalou' (1929) is still a hearty contender in my book.

You don't often come across a closeup of a razor slicing an eyeball in half, particularly in a film from the 1920's.

I just watched it.  I had read some on it beforehand about the desire of Dali and the director to put on camera something that couldn't be understood.  What the meaning of the scene would be and so on.  However, after just seeing it I think the movie is more about applicability to our own lives.  Rather then assign a preordained idea to the work show it and let each individual take their own meaning from it.  I usually don't get deep into the meaning of films but this struck me very oddly as just an interpretation of life in its most basic form. 

The eyeball scene represents that we are born but blinded by outside forces and soldier on through life.  We reach a turning point that hits us hard and we feel desires that we struggle to attain.  However, we are held back by work and beliefs.  We reject them fighting to get our goal and then are defeated by our own goals.  That which was once ours is returned to the world.  That which we desire is then given to the next generation to drive them forward till it defeats them as well.  At least, that is what I took from it.

Depends on your definition of disturbing.

For me it would have to be Frank Darabont's The Mist, but even more than that Dead Girl.

I don't have any intentions of ever watching that s**t. I can tolerate anything in movies except violence against babies.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Philosophy of a Knife.  A four-hour plus "documentary" about Japan's Unit 731.  Despite the hour to ninety minutes of snow - there is more horrifying, brutal, graphic torture - no one should watch this movie.  Seriously.

Currently... Neon Maniacs - (1986)

This movie disturbs me because there was so much stuff going on and nothing explained at the sametime and once the movie is over you are still thinking:

Why are the "Neon Maniacs" a bunch of rejects from the Village People?

Why water?

Where did they come from?

What with the "Neon Maniacs" collectable cards?

How is the nerdy "I cannot pick-up a chick" boy ends of being a lead singer of a new wave punk band? That happens to be in a band battle with Twisted Sister (want-a-be) and that lead singer has a whip. (actually the second band is much better)



Then how tall and old is Paula (Donna Locke)? I think she is 4' 6" and 22 in this movie but there is no info on the girl.

[Swamp Thing]

I just watched A Serbian Film and it went too far. I could handle the whole snuff porn theme, because I rate snuff themed movies like Mute Witness and 8mm (although this is a different beast), but "those 2 scenes" were too much. Why would you have that in a film? I really have to question filmmakers mental health when they stoop to levels as low as this for "shock value". I've seen the French film Inside and I didn't find "the scene" in that movie overly offensive because I've seen docos on crimes exactly the same as the plot of Inside, so its a semi-factual movie. But man A Serbian Film is tasteless. Other than "those 2 scenes", A Serbian Film is actually fairly well shot, and was a decent watch.
