Legendary basketball coach Bobby Knight has died.

Not necessarily a good man. But his death is a chance to celebrate the fact that he was able to write his own epitaph:

"When my time on earth is gone, and my activities here are passed,
I want they bury me upside down, and my critics can kiss my ass!"

RIP: I hadn't ever heard of Coach Knight before so I googled him and this came up  :buggedout:

QuoteFormer Indiana basketball player Todd Jadlow has written a book alleging that from 1985 to 1989, Knight punched him in the face, broke a clipboard over the top of his head, and squeezed his testicles and the testicles of other Hoosiers

That's why I said he "wasn't necessarily a good man."  In his defense most of his other players were fiercely loyal to him and said he was tough but fair. He definitely had anger issues.

I used to watch some college basketball with my dad, and Knight was interesting, a quality which forgives much else.

I actually heard Knight speak, also with my dad, and to be honest Knight seemed like he had mentally slipped with age by that point. He did say something that stuck with me when he said a former Indiana player who hated him later came back and told him:

"There are few men I have ever disliked more than you, but I have to admit under any other coach I never would have been motivated to become the player I did."

Knight was a character and he was one of the best at what he did.

When I heard this news it took me a minute to remember who he was, then I was like "Ohh yeah, he was the a**hole who liked to throw chairs around the basketball court ..."

I regret I was too young to be there for the heyday of McEnroe's antics, since bad boys make a sport more entertaining, to be honest. I do think Knight was a boor and basketball ain't my thing, but throwing a chair? For everyone who saw that who felt genuine revulsion at his poor sportsmanship, I bet there were ten who loved the excitement. I knew plenty of Texans who were glad to get him at Texas Tech.

Annnnniewaaaay, the man's dead, he now has to dance on the eye of a giant celestial turtle, as we all will someday according to my favorite religion, so good luck to him!

There's a speech of his on YT: I counted twenty uses of the F word in it.  :buggedout:
