Apparently they call her the Black Widow because both Michael Jackson and Prince died soon after she performed backing vocals for them.

I really like this downtempo thing above. They're almost all remixes of other people's songs, but they way they're mixed each one blends right into the next perfectly without a gap, keeping a consistent, buzzy late-night mood. Best listened to straight through.

Hard rock from Niger. I like the African elements, not the rock, and I assume most Americans will feel the exact opposite. Cover art could have come out of the 80s.

Giving it another listen. Good at Losing: https://youtu.be/uVlHMrpN_qk?si=fdujLTJkPs6MUlbw

Rare import came in the mail today: Film Music of Toru Takemitsu, Vol. 1. Includes "Kwaidan."

"Here in the Pitch" by Jessica Pratt

Interesting stuff, influenced by "Pet Sounds" and that era, but very subdued. Some bossa nova elements. She has a curious voice.

"Reasonable Woman" by Sia. Dance music.

2nd disc is weaker than the first, but still good.

Not my favorite Neil album (besides the wonderful title track), but I found it on sale for $1 and couldn't pass it up.

A very cool concept album. It's an imaginary giallo soundtrack (complete with Italian dialogue snippets) recorded by a stoner metal band. It's mostly in the original 70s era style, but sometimes modern sounds seep into it, and there are even a few tracks that resemble actual singles. This is going to be one of my top ten releases of the year, for sure. Give it a listen if you like giallo music or stoner rock. (A lot of fans of the band aren't happy that it's not metal enough, but it's just metal enough for me to stand.)

Here's the first track:

Compilation from an obscure German film/TV composer who did some really wacky stuff. The opening number is kind of porn-style jazz funk with women making pseudo-orgasm noises, but it also incorporates the melody of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (the "2001: A Space Odyssey" theme).
