Humanoid Robot Movie Inspired by Frankenstein?

Trying to think of a title for the other thread, but it escapes me.

The movie starts with a scientist bringing a younger man home for dinner; the younger man palm his food, & turns to the scientist, saying that "it was a mistake to not give me the ability to eat," or something to that effect.

After dinner, the scientist & the young man go to a lab, & it's revealed the man's a robot. He's hooked up to a machine to read/learn. He says he likes "War & Peace."

The lab is going to be shut down, so the scientist leaves his family to keep robot creation from being destroyed. (Or maybe they planned to turn the robot into a weapon.) They rent a room in an old house, on the condition that they don't use drugs, &... the movie becomes kinda slow & plodding.

It becomes clear the scientist sees the robot as a son. The robot sees a bit of Frankenstein on TV; the scientist forbids him from watching the rest. The robot finds a copy of the book, reads it, & appologises for doing so. He says the book's much different than the movie. To protect the scientist, the robot sets fire to their room, destroying himself. Last shot, I believe, is of the scientist crying.

The actor playing the robot had brown hair & a triangular face; he wore a white turtleneck. The scientist was an older man with a grey beard. (Again, going by memory.)

I've probably mentioned the film here before, by name, but today I can't remember it. I only saw it once, a long time ago, probably on VHS. It was rated PD instead of PG; I remember looking up the group which rated the movie; they focused on rating smaller films for a lower cost than the MPAA, & one state, Virginia I think, required either their rating or an MPAA rating to sell videos without a "this film is not rated" warning.

Wasn't bad; just slow & overly serious. The box said it was meant as a modern adaption of Frankenstein, tho it went in an entirely different direction than the novel. Kinda a "What if Frankenstein really did care for his monster" sorta thing.

I know the one you're talking about, but I can't find the name either....

It opens with the robot getting caught stealing a toy from a mall, then dinner with the doctor's wife, but he doesn't have the mechanisms to consume food....
They go on the run because the doctor thinks the army wants to turn the robot into a super soldier, even though a general insists otherwise....
At one point, they go fishing, & the robot makes a joke about a robot using artificial worms...
